Description

A recent cyberattack on a French hospital has exposed the personal and medical records of 750,000 patients. The attack was claimed by a hacker group using the alias "nears," who allege they have also compromised data from over 1.5 million individuals across several French healthcare facilities. The breach targeted MediBoard, an Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system used by hospitals in France. Softway Medical Group, the company behind MediBoard, confirmed that a privileged account within a hospital's infrastructure was compromised using stolen credentials. They clarified that the breach was not due to any software vulnerability or misconfiguration on their part. The hospital, not Softway Medical Group, hosted the affected data. The hacker, in an attempt to sell access, has offered sensitive data, including full names, birthdates, addresses, phone numbers, emails, prescriptions, and physician details. They also advertised the ability to modify medical records, appointments, and billing information. These records, involving 758,912 patients from an unnamed hospital, were listed for sale to three users. The data could pose significant risks, including phishing, identity theft, and social engineering attacks targeting individuals. Though the data has not yet been sold, there remains a high risk of it being leaked or used for malicious purposes in the future. Affected individuals should be cautious of any suspicious communication and stay alert to potential scams.
