Google has rolled out Chrome version 131, which includes important security fixes, including one for a high-severity issue. The latest release, version 131.0.6778.69 on Linux and 131.0.6778.69/.70 on Windows and macOS, will become available to all users over the next few days. A key vulnerability addressed in this update is CVE-2024-11110, an issue in Chrome’s Blink rendering engine that could make systems vulnerable to attacks. Discovered by researcher Vsevolod Kokorin from Solidlab, this flaw is classified as high risk. To prevent exploitation, technical details about this vulnerability have not been released, and users are advised to update promptly. Along with this critical fix, Chrome 131 addresses 11 other security vulnerabilities rated from medium to low in severity, impacting Chrome functions like Autofill, Media, Accessibility, Views, Navigation, Paint, and FileSystem. Some of these issues involve “use-after-free” errors and gaps in policy enforcement.
