The Australian National University (ANU) subsidiary, ANU Enterprise (ANUE), has been listed on the dark web leak site of the ThreeAM ransomware group. Although the threat actors have not disclosed specific details about the breach, they have indicated that none of the allegedly stolen data has been made public. ANU has now confirmed that ANUE was impacted by a ransomware attack that led to both file encryption and data exfiltration from its IT systems. "Our wholly owned subsidiary, ANU Enterprise, recently experienced a ransomware incident," an ANU spokesperson told Cyber Daily. "Some files stored on ANU Enterprise’s IT systems were encrypted and exfiltrated as a result." The university emphasized that ANUE’s systems operate independently from ANU’s main network, ensuring no internal university systems were affected. Upon detecting the incident, ANUE promptly reported it to the Australian Cyber Security Centre and collaborated with ANU’s Information Security team to restore impacted systems and files. ANU confirmed it has reached out to those affected by the breach and has not paid any ransom. "The university is committed to cybersecurity and takes all potential data breaches very seriously, extending these efforts to include subsidiaries," the spokesperson added. ANUE, alongside the ANU Information Security Office, is currently assessing the incident to develop additional security measures. At this time, the ThreeAM ransomware gang has not released any data or updated its leak site with further details about the breach, Cyber Daily noted.
