Major oil and gas multinational Shell has reportedly experienced a data breach affecting customers in nearly a dozen countries. The breach was disclosed by a threat actor named “888” on BreachForums, claiming to have uploaded 80,000 rows of customer data from Australia, the UK, France, India, Singapore, the Philippines, the Netherlands, Malaysia, and Canada. The compromised data includes shopper codes, names, email addresses, mobile contacts, postcodes, suburbs, states, site addresses, site names, last login details, pay and association numbers, and nectar information, indicating a breach of customer loyalty program details. In Australia, Shell's partnership with Coles Express, recently sold to Viva Energy, was notably affected, with a sample showing details of 10 Australian customers. Despite the data appearing authentic, other cybersecurity organizations have not yet verified it. The breach highlights the ongoing risks to customer data in large multinational corporations and the importance of robust cybersecurity measures.
