Prudential Financial has confirmed a significant data breach affecting over 2.5 million individuals, following unauthorized access by a cybercrime group in February 2024. The breach, detected on February 5, compromised administrative and user data, as well as employee and contractor accounts. The exposed personal information includes names, driver's license numbers, and non-driver identification card numbers. Upon discovering the breach, Prudential immediately engaged cybersecurity experts to contain the incident and confirm that the unauthorized access had been terminated. Initially, the breach was reported to affect 36,000 people, but subsequent assessments revealed the true number to be 2,556,210 individuals. In response, Prudential has notified all affected individuals and is offering support measures, including credit monitoring and identity theft protection services. The company is also collaborating closely with regulatory authorities and law enforcement to investigate the breach. Prudential is committed to enhancing its security measures to prevent future incidents. While details about the perpetrators remain limited, the ALPHV/BlackCat ransomware gang has claimed responsibility. This group is known for its involvement in numerous cyber incidents worldwide. Prudential's swift response and ongoing efforts to support affected individuals underscore its dedication to security and privacy. The company continues to take all necessary measures to protect its data and improve its cybersecurity protocols.
