Description

Palo Alto Networks has warned of active exploitation targeting a high-severity remote code execution vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-0322, in the PAN-OS management interface. The flaw allows an authenticated attacker with network access to execute arbitrary code with root privileges on vulnerable firewall appliances. Affected products include PA-Series and VM-Series firewalls, as well as virtual and M-Series Panorama appliances. Cloud NGFW and Prisma Access are not affected. The risk is particularly high when the management interface is accessible from the internet. The vulnerability is classified as a code injection weakness and has a CVSS 4.0 score of up to 8.6 when the management interface is network-accessible. Palo Alto Networks has reported limited exploitation attempts and identified externally exposed management interfaces as the most significant risk. Successful exploitation could compromise the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of affected systems. Since authentication is required, attackers may rely on stolen or weak administrator credentials to gain access. The vendor has stated that no workarounds are available. Organizations should immediately restrict management interface access to trusted internal IP addresses or secure jump hosts and block direct internet access. Administrators should prioritize upgrading affected firewalls and Panorama appliances to the appropriate fixed software versions. Where supported, Threat Prevention signatures 510046 and 510047 may provide limited protection under the vendor's specified inspection and SSL decryption requirements. Organizations should also rotate administrator credentials, review user accounts, monitor management logs for suspicious logins and configuration changes, and investigate potentially compromised devices. Unsupported PAN-OS versions should be migrated to supported releases containing the necessary fixes.
