Fieldtex Products, a U.S.-based provider of contract sewing and medical supply fulfillment, has reported a data breach following an attack attributed to a well-known ransomware operation. According to a notice published on November 20, the company identified suspicious activity on its network in mid-August. Subsequent investigation confirmed that the intruders may have accessed a portion of protected health information belonging to individuals whose data was provided through associated health plans. The company, which manufactures soft-sided cases for military and medical use and distributes first-aid and medical supplies through its E-First Aid Supplies division, stated that the exposed data could include names, addresses, birth dates, health insurance member IDs, plan details, coverage terms, and gender. A filing in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services breach reporting database indicates that approximately 238,615 people were affected. On November 5, the Akira ransomware group claimed responsibility for the intrusion, listing Fieldtex’s medical supply division on its Tor leak site. The attackers alleged they stole over 14 GB of internal documents containing employee, customer, and financial information. While they threatened to release the data, no files had been posted publicly at the time the notice was issued.
