Michigan healthcare provider Cherry Street Services (Cherry Health) is alerting over 180,000 individuals about a recent data breach stemming from a ransomware attack. The incident, which occurred on December 21, 2023, led to the compromise of personal information. While the organization initially disclosed the attack in early January, an update in February confirmed that patients' personal data was affected. In a recent filing with the Maine Attorney General's Office, Cherry Health confirmed the involvement of ransomware and the impact on approximately 184,000 individuals. The compromised information includes names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, phone numbers, health insurance details, patient ID numbers, treatment and prescription information, and financial account information. Cherry Health has completed the process of identifying affected individuals and began notifying them on March 25, 2024. The organization is offering free credit monitoring and identity protection services to those impacted. Operating more than 20 locations in Michigan with a team of over 800 healthcare professionals, Cherry Health remains committed to addressing the fallout from this breach and safeguarding patient information.
