A Belarusian hacker activist group claims to have breached the network of the country's main KGB security agency, accessing personnel files of over 8,600 employees. While authorities have not commented on the claim, the Belarusian KGB website was found to be inaccessible, displaying only an empty page stating it was "in the process of development." The Belarusian Cyber-Partisans group, seeking to substantiate its claim, published a list of the website's administrators, its database, and server logs on its Telegram page. Group coordinator Yuliana Shametavets stated that the attack on the KGB was in response to the agency's chief accusing the group of plotting attacks on the country's critical infrastructure, including a nuclear power plant. Shametavets emphasized that the group's actions aimed to expose political repression by the Belarusian special services. The Cyber-Partisans group claims to have accessed the KGB network several years ago and has since attempted to hack its website and database. After successfully breaching the system, they downloaded personal files of over 8,600 KGB employees. In response to the breach, Cyber-Partisans launched a Telegram chat bot allowing Belarusians to identify KGB operatives by uploading their photos. The group's recent cyber activities include claiming to infiltrate computers at the country's largest fertilizer plant to pressure the government to release political prisoners. The state-run Grodno Azot plant has not commented on the claim, but its website has been unavailable since April 17. Belarus, a close ally of Russia, faced mass protests after a disputed election in 2020, leading to a crackdown by authorities, with over 35,000 people arrested and many facing brutal treatment.
