Security experts discovered on July 3rd, 2022, that the British Army's verified Twitter and YouTube accounts were hacked to promote an online cryptocurrency scam after the army's verified Twitter account began displaying fake NFTs and bogus crypto giveaway schemes. On the same day, July 3, 2022, the UK Ministry of Defense confirmed the breach and reclaimed control of their YouTube and Twitter accounts. As per reports, the army's verified Twitter account was hacked and renamed 'psssd' with changed profile and header images and began displaying fake NFTs and crypto giveaway schemes by tweeting links that redirected to crypto scam sites, and on the British Army's YouTube channel, hackers began "live-streaming" older Elon Musk videos to lure users to visit fake "Ark Invest" crypto scam websites. Researchers reported a similar crypto scam in May 2022, believing that fraudsters stole $1.3 million after restreaming an edited version of an old live panel discussion on cryptocurrency "The Word" featuring Elon Musk, Jack Dorsey, and Cathie Wood.
